Wanderwise - Smart City HikeTech Application
InnoEX ShowcaseWanderwise.ai: Smart HikeTech Analytics Platform
Wanderwise.ai is an innovative HikeTech analytics system that combines machine learning algorithms with personalization techniques to create customized Hiking experiences for users.
Meet the WanderWise.ai startup team The project was developed as part of a collaborative effort between 4 City University Hong Kong students majoring in Data Science, Engineering and Computational Finance fields.
Project Overview
Wanderwise addresses key challenges in travel planning by:
AI Trail Recommendations: With User Feedback Integration and content-based algorithms to suggest destinations based on user preferences, body condition, and demographic information.
Dynamic Health Monitoring: Stamina Estimation Predicts Risk of health issues ( Decline in Stamina, Heat Strokes etc. ) Personalized Recommendations with consider of age and diseases
SOS Function: Incorporating Emergency Alert System,Distance Post Map, Location Sharing, HKSOS - RescueAI
Technical Implementation
- Hardware Requirements: Cameras and Sensors: Uses trail cameras or mobile devices to capture images and videos.
- Wildlife Detection: Deep Learning Models: Trained CNNs with Hong Kong-specific wildlife data.
Computer Vision: Identifies snakes and hazards by recognizing shapes, colors, and textures.
Real-Time Alerts: Detects wildlife in videos and sends immediate notifications to hikers.
My Contribution
As the lead business manager and CFO on this project, my responsibilities included:
- Overseeing academic and industrial partnerships for the project
- Designing user-need matching algorithm to implement the core recommendation algorithms
- Creating internal financial management and budgeting system, overseeing the project’s financial operations
Results and Impact
The Wanderwise platform achieved:
- Successful submission to InnoEX 2025 as a merchant exhibitor, sponsoring by HK Digital Policy Office.
- Successful submission to HKSTP Techathon+ 2024 as a 3rd runner-up winner.
- Successful submission to Open Data Hackathon 2024 as the Champion.
- Succesfully gained initial R&D partnership between BYU Computer Science HCI lab and the Wanderwise.ai startup team.
This project demonstrates how machine learning techniques can be applied to enhance decision-making processes in travel planning, creating more satisfying and personalized experiences for users.
